Katie Lowry, LPC REsident
Katie is a Resident in Counseling with over 5 years of clinical experience working with children, adults, couples and families in school-based and private practice settings. Her dedication to the dignity of the human person informs her professional work in ministry, social justice, school counseling and therapy. Katie studied at the University of Virginia for both her Bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in Architecture and her Master’s in Counselor Education.
Katie loves working with teens and college-aged adults, as well as couples and individuals of all ages. Her primary theoretical orientation is attachment theory through the lens of Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), and she approaches all clients with openness to their experiences and strengths. Katie loves supporting clients with depression, anxiety, complex trauma and those navigating major life transitions, like adjustment to college and career changes, new parenthood, grief and loss, anticipation of loss, estrangement from adult children and caretaking of aging family members. She works with couples to restore connection from a variety of experiences, from those looking for a "tune up" to couples contemplating divorce. In addition to working with clients utilizing EFT, Katie integrates evidence-based practices including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, mindfulness-based practices and systems theory while providing trauma-informed care for her clients.
Katie is deeply honored to accompany clients and help people experience healing and find peace and restoration in their lives and relationships. Outside of work, she loves cooking savory foods for family dinner, getting outside with my husband and 3 young boys, going on walks and reading on her front porch.
